Bonsai Tree
6.VA.1.4 Describe how balance is effectively used in a work of art (symmetry, asymmetrical, radial).
CCSS.MATH.7.G.6 Solve real-world problems involving area, volume and surface area ofthree-dimensional objects.
VA.7.2.1 Developing increasing skill in the use of at least three different media.
6-VA-CE-2.4 Create increasingly complex original works of art reflecting personal choices and increased technical skill.
1.What does symmetry mean?
Seminary means to be balanced. You can check if an object or image is symmetrical if you fold the shape or object in half you would have the same or similar image in both sides.
3.Provide an example of where in nature you can find symmetry. Why are objects symmetrical, what would be a benefit to being balanced/symmetrical as a human?
An example of symmetry in nature is a butterfly. It would be beneficial to be symmetrical as a human because it would help us walk comfortably. If we were not symmetrical we wouldn't be able to walk properly and this would lead to back pain
4.Describe the process of creating a rectangular prism/cube. What did you do to plan prior to construction?
The first step that I took to create my cube was to create a blue print for my tree. I then listed how many pieces of cardboard I would need and their dimensions. In total I used 5 3x3 squares and one more 3x3 square to help secure my tree.
5.What style of bonsai tree did you choose, and why did you pick that style?
The style that I chose is informal upright. I picked this style because it was not to complicated, but it wasn't to boring at the same time.
6.How would someone know which style of bonsai tree you created? What characteristics illustrate which type of tree style you created?
People would know that my tree is informal upright because it is not symmetrical, but it is still upright.
7.The media/materials that were used were: wire, cardboard, papier mache, tissue paper, paint, and scrap paper.Out of all the materials that we worked with, which one was the most challenging for you to work with. Why did you find that material more challenging than the others?
Out of all the materials that I used the wire was the hardest medium to work with because the thick wire was hard to bend and shape.
8.How does your bonsai tree reflect personal choices that you made, and what makes your project unique to you?
My bonsai tree reflects my personal choice, because I designed my bonsai tree unlike any other. For the flowers and leaves I used the same method of taking two different colors of paper mache and twisting them together.
