Personal Statement
I deserve to graduate the 8th grade for may reasons. My first reason is because I have all seven of my goals. I have a PREP average of 114 and have an attendance rate of 98%. Also this year I have been a part of a anon-profit organization named Big Citizen Hub. So, I already have more than a 100 volunteer hours. More than 80 hours than the 20 needed. I have all 8 of my books and 100% in both my ELA and Math Study Island. I have a CCA of over 96% and passed all 3 of my writing exams. I always turn in my homework and projects in time and come to my classes on time. These are the reasons why I should promote.
Some things that I did to achieve my goal was to listen in class. Paying attention in class was and still is one of the most important things I do to get good grades. Doing homework was also important because I usually don't review my notes so doing homework sort of forces me to review for what I learned in class that day. Also, if you constantly do you homework everyday it shows the teacher that you are someone responsible.
An accomplishment that was important to me this year is getting an A+ in my ELA class. This is a very important accomplishment for me is because it was my first time getting an A+ in ELA in middle school. An experience that was very important to me was when I heard the story of three people who suffered through homelessness. They explained how they have mental illnesses and how some of them were addicted to drugs. This made me realize that if I grow up and become a psychiatrist I should help people like them.

RKMS Mission and Vision
How did you fulfill RKMS' Vision?
Reciprocate. Give back.
This year I reciprocated back to the community. This might not make sense at first but since I am a student, I go to school with the tax money the adults in our community give. Not only that but thinking about all the items that I use in one day comes from labor workers. I know that I might not be directly helping the people that does these things for me but I helped people that were less fortune than me. Also, giving back to the community is like reciprocating my thankfulness.
Initiate and Innovate. Change starts with you.
Something that I initiated that was innovative this year is the service day that my team in BHC is planning. Our group is made of middle schoolers and we wanted to help with the issue of homelessness. At first I didn't think that we could do it, but now we are planning fundraisers and gathering money to buy toiletries and school supplies for families that are going through homelessness.
Steward. Be an advocate for change.
This year I was an advocate for change by going out to rally. This happened on a Saturday with BCH. We went to Downtown City Hall, with our posters, and spoke against bullying. Bullying is a very important problem that many students face in school. Bullying effects peoples lives significantly. Since we wanted to see a change in this we rallied up to bring more awareness of bullying.
Elevate through EDUCATION.
This year I elevated through education by using the information that I learned in school and in BCH to become a better person. This year in history I learned about the history of this nation. Knowing the history helped understand a little more on why our society is like this way today. I began to respect the African Americans and learned not to be prejudice or racist toward others. Due to ELA class I began to appreciate that I was born in this time line and thankful for all the people that helped segregation (since I am Asian I would be a colored folk). In science I learned about our solar system and about physical science, and in math I learned new formulas and new topics. In VPA I didn't just learn how to draw. I learned the history of art and how it can reflect on the life style of people in that time line. With this information I became more knowledgeable. Even know I use the information that I learned in school outside of school. For example BCH.
How have you demonstrated RKMS' Mission through leadership?
This year the RKMS' Mission is Advocacy of Community. I accomplished this mission by joining a non-profit organization called Big Citizen Hub. This year along with Big Citizen Hub I became an advocate to help the community. I visited two homeless shelters this year. The first one was PATH there my team helped cook and serve the lunch for the homeless. The second homeless shelter was My Friend's Place. This homeless shelter only houses young adults and they gave us a tour of their homeless shelter. However, the activity that most suits the RKMS' Mission is the project my team is developing. We decided to create a service day where we help the homeless by making they toiletry bags and provide school supplies for the students. Me and my team are doing this with the resources that we have. Even though it might not solve the problem of homelessness it still gives the people one less thing to worry about and helps them focus more on getting their family out of homelessness. Through this I became a better student who will be ready for college, because it helped me improve my leadership skills.

BHC Essay
In our school we were told to have a minimum of 20 hours before we graduate. So, for my graduation hours I joined a volunteer organization called Big Citizen hub. Big Citizen hub is a non-profit organization that believes that young people (like me) have the power to change the world. For about the whole school year we meet about two to three times a week on Saturdays, from 9 to 4:30. When someone usually volunteers they work for one day or many but no one usually tells them the deeper meaning behind the problems that our community faces. However, BCH is different. Before going out and volunteering we learn about a specific problem that our community is facing. We have speakers coming in and telling their story and we also go out to volunteer. So, that in the end we can become experts at the topic and truly think about how we can change the world when we grow up.
In total we have three topics this year. The first topic was homelessness. This was the topic that surprised me the most and made me realize so many things. For the topic of homelessness I remember that we had three speakers, who were previously homeless, come in and talk about their experiences. When they told me how they became homeless and their time of when they were homeless, I learned that I should be thankful of what I have and that you never know what will happen in your life. Me and my team also went to a homeless shelter named PATH. There we made and served lunch for the homeless. They said they were surprised that children like us could do so much. Another thing that I realized is how much mental illnesses affect the homeless. I found out that many people who are going through homelessness suffer from mental illnesses. Since I want to be a psychiatrist when I grow up I want to help the homeless overcome their illness and come out of homelessness.
I think that the topic we are in right now will be how we most benefit our community. Not many people might not know this but one of the reasons America is an obese country is because most people don’t have access to fresh healthy food. To help solve this problem BCH teamed up with an nonprofit organization called Seeds of Hope to build a community garden to help low income families have access to fresh healthy food. This community garden is located next to Echo Park. It is pretty small but building this garden will help children see how food is grown and making them engage in building the and taking care of the garden will make them want to eat the vegetables growing in the garden.
The last topic was bullying. We learned about the different types of bullying and how we can stop bullying if we were the victim. Unlike the other two topics this topic is one that I can help fix right now.
