CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.8.2: Determine a central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text, including its relationship to supporting ideas; provide an objective summary of the text.
CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.8.3: Analyze how a text makes connections among and distinctions between individuals, ideas, or events (e.g., through comparisons, analogies, or categories).
1. Justify how this project/activity/assignment meets the standard, using evidence from the standard itself to demonstrate your mastery and/or understanding.
One of the standards this assignment demonstrates is the standard W,8.8 because the standard says that i needed to gather information from multiple print and digital resources. I met this standard through the assignment by researching about Pearl Harbor, example interviews, and information on the Japanese internment camps on the internet and I also used the book "Farewell to Manzanar" for my last section on the article and information on Internment camps. I then used these in formations in my articles writing them in my own words. The second standard that this assignment demonstrates is RI.8.1. In the assignment i needed to write an analysis on the three major themes of the book "Farewell to Manzanar" by citing textual evidence from the book. The third standard is RI.8.2. this standard relates to the standard because in the last part of the article I needed to talk about the three major themes or central ideas of the book " Farewell to Manzanar". I also need to talk about how the three major themes (identity, prejudice, and family) developed over the course of the internment or course of the text. during the process I gave a small summary of the book. The last standard is RI 8.3. This assignment relates to the standard because I needed to analyze the connections and differences. For example, how the Americans thought the Japanese were dangerous but the Japanese knew that they were innocent.
2. Elaborate on at least 1 skill and/or strength you feel you gained from completing this project.
One skill that I have gained from this project is how to write an interview. To complete this project I needed to write a fake interview with a family or person that had been in the internment camps. I didn't know the correct format and what kind of questions to write at first. However, While reading other interviews I learned what kind of questions would seem fit for the interview that I was writing and the correct layout of interviews.
3. Upon reflecting on your work/score, what is ONE area of work you could have done better on? How will improving in this area benefit future work/projects
One area that I could have improved on in this assignment is grammar and spelling while reflecting on my grade and work. If I had done a better job on my grammar and spelling the articles could have had a better flow and would have seemed more professional. Im proving in this area would benefit in future work and projects because it could get me a high grade and would help make my work more professional. For example, in writing exams spelling and grammar is an important part of the final writing exam grade. Also, in mostly every class (even math) there is a writing proportion in testes and assignments. If i improve on my grammar and spelling it would also help me in other classes not only in ELA class.
4. How will you presently apply the content and skills you learned from this assignment in the real world (outside of the classroom, particularly connections between the content and your life.
I can apply the skills that I have learned in the real world when I need to research about something. I can use this when I need to research something for another class. Also, I could use this in the future because most of the jobs require a research of some sort.
